First step is always stressful.

Every time I do something for the first time is stressful even when I write the first word on a blank note, I have to pick up the pen with perfect color and thickness.

While it is not incorrect to say 'pick up' (as in take hold of) the pen, it is more natural to say 'pick' (as in choose) the pen.

That is the pressure to being perfect from the first step.
