I write many letters, both formal and informal in English, and while I have a C2 language exam for years now I can't help but feel terribly clumsy and unsophisticated when I try to express complex ideas. As I had problems both dedicating time and finding appropriate topics for this post, as my first post I've decided to use parts of my most recent master pieces.

When a sentence is set off by an adverbial phrase, it often sounds better to place the subject immediately afterwards.

Dear Sir/Madam,

As requested in your reminder, I'm hereby inform you that on September 33rd, 2020 I have payepaid €50 of the bill nᵒ10101010.

The date specifies that this happened in the past, so the present perfect should not be used.

Sincerely,

Today was one of our big national holidays commemorating the revolution in 1956.

... My grandfather has this story about theirhis neighbor shooting at this big red iron star on top of the rooftop.

You haven’t referred to anyone other than your grandfather

In the singular, “rooftop” implies a flat area, so “on top” doesn’t make sense. Additionally, I tend to associate “rooftop” with descriptions of roofs in the plural (“the rooftops of the city”).

Who(The neighbor) was beaten by the queuing people in front of the bakery, terrified by the bouncing bullets.

The original was a sentence fragment.

No, I'm still at home, undiagnosed.

I had a test in September that came back positive.

So I hope that during my next appointment with the specialist on Monday, we can move on from whether I'm truly sick or not to something more productive.

Anyway, now that it's getting colder here I'm feeling slightly better on average.

...

Upon arrival at the airport in Budapest, I had to go to quarantine at home.

The phrase is “go + verb.”; there is no “to” unless “go” functions as an unrelated verb to indicate place, with the destination between it and the other verb (“go to a government approved site to quarantine”).

It was not too bad as our house is relatively big and far from the street so they had no way to check whether I'm truly in my room distancing myself from everyone or not (before you say I'm careless to others, the quarantine itself was quite stupid as I came back from a country with lower rates while my siblings kept attending school).
