Expensive Mistake (53)

I got caught using my smartphone while driving.

I had to pay ¥18,000 for the fine.

That sucks.

I asked the police man "If I wanted to use Google Map, what should I do?"

He answered "You can use your phone, while it is set a holder. In that case, no problem."

Anyway, it was an expensive mistake.

We say "Itai shuppi" in Japanese, but in English would you say "an expensive expense, an expensive mistake" for the fine?

Could you teach me? Thank you so much.
