To the editor, in the undercover parent, the novelist Harlan Coben writes that putting spyware on a child’s smartphone is a good idea.

Coben provides us two examples to justify heris argument but I would disagree with herim since heris examples are both refutable and too extreme.

First, Coben wrcites about case where a young boy who was conversingcommunicated with a pedophile using smartphoonline and a girl who committed suicide due to cyberbullying.

The two cases are not only rare but also misleading- the majority of children awere neithver cyberbullied nor conversingencountered pedophile.s online

Moreover, I would say that smartphone itself is not a root cause of problems that the boy and the girl were sufferingthe issues.

There are others ways to chat with a pedophile without a smartphone and if the girl were borhad been when there were no smartphones, she would gethave been bullied in the real world instead of the cyber world.

Even without smartphones, predators could contact children through other means, and bullying would simply shift from digital to physical spaces.( Just a suggestion sentence)

Smartphone is just a means and spyware will not solve the problem completely since there are other ways to do misbehaviore.

If spyware can protect children completely from dangers, I would install it but it cannot protect our children and infringes on children’s privacy.

Therefore, I go againstdisagree with Coben’s idea that putting spyware on a child’s smartphone is a good idea.
