I've been wondering for the past 2 or 3 years whether ChatGPT or any other language model could sound like a real person to natives after talking to it for half an hour?

Feedback
No corrections, so I’ll just answer your question. I work on AI and yes, about the only thing it does well is produce accurate, native-sounding speech. It’s still pretty bad at Asian languages because of homonyms and context, but for Indo-European languages it can be very convincing. It’s the content that is problematic: AI is very, very frequently wrong and imprecise, but it’s hard to tell because it “sounds smart” due to sophisticated language.
