Are Japan’s universities doing a good job of preparing young people for the working world?
Although Japan’s universities are not academically high leveled as universities in foreign countries such as Stanford and Harvard, they are doing a good job of preparing young people for the working world as they help people develop their communication skills, be independent, and search the best jobs for their future.
When people join universities, they experience the environment that is completely different from high school including the change in the size of the school building, and the number of students. It is hard to adjust those changes, but, at the same time, it is a great opportunity for helping students learn how to communicate with people from different places and backgrounds. In the working world, the communication skills are one of the most important and valued skills because it shows that they could cooperate and work together with people. Therefore, attending Japan’s universities helps students to develop their communication skills that is effective for getting accepted to the job.
University tuitions are expensive all around the world, and the same for Japan’s universities. When they get enrolled to universities, priority of people start part time jobs to earn money for their tuition. Experiencing part time job is absolutely necessary for students to learn how society and economic financials function. Part time job is not only effective for learning how to work, but also helps them learn to be independent as they are required to be responsible during their work time, and maintain their money. Although Japan’s universities’ tuitions are extremely expensive that people needs to work at part time job, but at the same time, it helps them prepare and practice working, be responsible, and be independent.
Lastly, unlike high school that teaches the broad subjects, Japan’s universities has specific caliculums and majors that they offer to help students extend their knowledge on their main subjects. There is a significance in this system as they could help students decide what types of jobs they want to get and jobs they like to do in the future. Major systems help students earn more detailed knowledge on their favorite subjects, and could become a trigger for them to choose their jobs.
Based on those reasons, I believe that Japan’s universities strongly help students earn new skills that is valued in the working world, learn how to manage working, and support them get a job they could utelize their knowledge.
