Yes, it's strongly recommended, because "we can study more new things" is a subordinate clause. In informal speech you could probably drop it and be understood but for this particular example it's clearest if you include it.

Thank you so much. I read that you can omit 'that' if it is the object of a restrictive clause. For example, 'I like the book (that) Tim gave me.' In formal writing, such as in an academic essay, can I omit 'that' in this sentence? In other contexts, I should not omit 'that' when writing for academic purposes, shouldn't I?
