怎么保护重要的树？

我在当地政府工作当城市规划师。我最近的项目是关于保护树的。当地人可能提名一颗他们觉得应该被保护的树。我们评估他们的树的时候有标准。比如说，树很大，高，老，被有名的人种的，或者对澳大利亚的土著重要之类的。如果我们跟当地人同意，认为这棵树很特色我们将制定保护法来保护这棵树，防止人们砍伐它。

I work for the local government as an urban planner. My recent project was about tree conservation. Locals can nominate a tree they feel should be protected. We have criteria for evaluating their trees. For example, the tree might be large, tall, old, planted by a famous person, or important to Australian Aboriginal people. If we agree with the locals that the tree is distinctive, we will enact laws to protect it and prevent people from cutting it down.
