This picture is very precious. I think it should have been shot in the early 1980 s, and I don't think it was shot nowadays. When I was a child, my family raised an ox to help us with farming. Why didn't we raise a horse? It is because horses are strong-willed and difficult to control while oxen are much docile. So we farmers prefer raising oxen to helping us to farm.

was shot? Should have been= hypothetical, was shot means it did happen. Always put the s right next to the decade, with no apostrophe. Use a synonym for shot (taken, etc) to make it flow better.

It is because hHorses are strong-willed and difficult to control, while oxen are much docile.

"It is because" is technically correct, but clunky. Comma after control: two different clauses.
So we farmers prefer raising oxen to helping us to us farm.
So we farmers prefer raising oxen to help us farm.
Never "to helping" always "to help" or other infinitive. Some people may use "to farm" but in my dialect (Appalachian English) we don't. "To farm/farm" is really a stylistic choice, you can leave it as you did. Cannot leave "to helping" however.
