Dream has two different meanings in English. One is what you see as you fall asleep, the another is what you want to be. That's the case in Japanese as well. But, I think that it is confusing. In Japanese, "seeing a dream" does make sense in two ways.
I still remember that English teacher in my high school days said, "I learned to see dreams spoken in English since who knows when. You have to study hard until you can speak English in your dreams." I've never seen an educational dream like this. Actually, seeing a dream in English is one of my dreams. Though I tried to speak English in my dream once before, I can't fall asleep since I was curious about how to translate something into English words.

Very interesting :)
"Dream" is both a verb and a noun. So instead of "I saw a dream" we just say "I dreamed"
