Why are you learning English - written by Bees

[ original text ]

Owning to globalisation, pop-culture and internet, English is very common in daily life. Frequent exposition makes it easier to learn and also knowledge of this language gives a lot of advantages. Nonetheless, I probably wouldn't take a benefits of it without school.

It happened that during all my way through educational system I had English classes, from kindergarden to highschool. For most of the time I wasn't paying to much attention to this subject, but anyway for a decade I was sort of forced to learn English. I don't mind, on the contrary, I'm grateful for that. I know I have a big lack of knowladge and huge lack of practise, but still I'm able to read Webtoons, watch English-subtitles movies and read a book about BTS' Universe in English - all of that and more wouldn't be possible without school. (Thank you school and miss you a little bit).

English is like a key to a magical place full of information and precious content (or funny memes). My first leanguage didn't make it to the TOP 5 world-wide famous language, and many piece of jurnaling, or books, or films are not availbe for non-English speaker. Even though most of materials I'm intrested in was translated, there is usually something missing from the original text. Translation process almost always makes at least a little damage and I want to be so close to the sources or prototype as I can.

Another very important reason why I'm learning English is my pen-friend. I want to understend her and express my own feelings and thoughts better. Moreover, I wish we can meet in person one day. I won't be able to use Google translator nor dictionry during conversation, so I have to overcome my laizyness and absent of language talent and keep learning English.

Also I'm aware how much English is useful in outside world and adulthood life. Most of the better paid job required knowladge of English. If I want to study or work abroad, or go for forign trip, English language is must have. (I heard about people who manage to live well without knowing a language of country they are living in, but it requires a level of wisdom, self-confidance and social-skill that's not in my league).

PS I'm not sure If there any reliable research have been done, but anyway I belive that language shapes our thoughts. We unconsciounsly let our language to affect on our thinking process, the same way we consciounsly choose words that our thoughts will fit in. English and Polish are cousins, so difference between thinking in Polish and thinking in English isn't that big, but that's why I'm intresteted in learning Korean! Completely different system, it may be intresting exercise for my brain.
