Diary (about getting a haircut)

Yesterday afternoon, my mom and I drove to a hair salon that my mom visits regularly. When we arrived, the whole salon was full. The salon was short-staffed on that day. My mom asked her hair stylist to give me a haircut first so that I could return home for an online lesson by 6pm. However, my mom's hair stylist was busy with other customers at the same time. He asked the store manager to have my hair cut instead.

As I waited, my mom was enjoying herself chatting with her hair stylist and the customer with a dog. She's such a people person that she can always start a conversation with anyone anywhere. If I had had half of her conversational skills, I would definitely have become more successful in my career.

The store manager was adept at layering my hair, but he was so rough that it hurt me. That being said, it wasn't all his fault because he knew I was rushing to my lesson. After he washed my hair, he pulled a hood dryer over my head. I felt as if I was flying a plane past a volcano. It was fun to get a haircut with my mom. Not only did we get nice hairstyles, but we also had a great time.

I can't explain why, but "had had" doesn't sound natural to me here. Just one "had" is fine.

That being said, it wasn't all his fault because he knew I was rushing toin a rush for my lesson.

"I was rushing" sounds like you were actually in the middle of going to the lesson while he was doing your hair. You mean to say "in a rush for" or "late for".

After he washed my hair, he pulled a hood dryer over my head.

I felt as if I was flying a plane past a volcano.

It was fun to get a haircut with my mom.

Not only did we get nice hairstyles, but we also had a great time.

Feedback

Fantastic, your English is great! Bear in mind that "mom" is US English. In the rest of the English-speaking world we say "mum".

Thank you so much for helping me out!! I didn't know there's a nuance between rushing to and in a rush for something, and I'm so happy that I learned something new! I will keep that in mind and pay more attention to the spelling difference from different parts of the world. I appreciate it!
