Depends on One's Stage and Purpose
Language learning starts from input, and practice. Babies learn their languages little by little, by being taught and corrected. Polishing one's language is a life-long criterion even for our native languages.
Moreover, in language learning, searching and asking is more important than thinking and agonizing to solve a problem by ourselves, at least until later stages.
Unfortunately, it isn't really ready to teach a language to foreign learners yet. In cases with similar languages to one's own, it is easier to teach or learn, but we, humankind, need a deeper understanding of grammar.

言語学習はインプットから始まります。それと練習です。子どもは言葉を少しずつ、教わったり直されたりしながら学びます。母国語であっても、言葉を磨くのは一生涯の課題です。

One of the things we study in psychology is language acquisition, in particular children learning their native language. It's really interesting stuff. Although our native languages merit more profound study than what we learn from our parents, it's still amazing how quickly kids pick up the language.
