Marathon Race
I went for a walk early this morning. When I got home, the Olympic marathon race had already begun. I thought the race would start at 7 AM, but the Olympic Organizing Committee decided to start at 6 AM because of the hot weather. The decision was announced at 8 pm the night before. The marathon race was held at Sapporo because Sapporo has a cool weather. However, Sapporo is very hot this summer. I think it's because of global warming.
今日、早朝にウォーキングに行きました。帰ってきたら、オリンピックのマラソンが始まっていました。マラソンは午前7時に始まるのかと思っていましたが、暑さのためオリンピック組織委員会は6時開始に変更しました。その決定は前日の午後8時に発表されました。札幌は涼しいため、マラソンは札幌で開催されました。しかし、今夏の札幌はとても暑いです。地球温暖化のせいだと思います。

I would say "The marathon was held at Sapporo because it has cool weather". Even though in this instance it is grammatically correct to start the sentence with because, my opinion is that it tends to produce awkward sentences and so should be avoided.
The repetition of "Sapporo" can be avoided by using a pronoun ("it") the second time Sapporo is used.

I guess it's a matter of preference, but I wouldn't say it produces any tonal oddities other than just putting extra emphasis on the reason. It's a construction I see plenty of times, especially with other words such as "Since..."
