Day 7: I Got Into a Fight With My Fridge

It's late night. Everyone's sleeping. I'm standing in front of the fridge, like a clumsy burglar who wants just a slice of cheese. And then it happened: it beeped. Not just a quiet "Sorry, you left me open, bro!" sign. It was an offended, arrogant, dominant beep. I believe it waited for me to get comfortable and start enjoy my midnight treasure before launching its sonic revenge.

I pay the bills, but it seems the fridge is the boss of this house. I tried to close the door, and sneak away, but it didn't stop. I opened and closed again, but it beeped right back, louder, as if it said, "I know, what you're doing, and I don't like it!". I opened the door again and put back the cheese, just in case it might finally becomes quiet. But it didn't work.

I tried not to look at it, maybe it would calms down, but no, it listened to my every move. I thought it maybe not just a machine. It's the age of AI, right? Maybe it's possessed by something. But who knows. Probably a digital demon, whose job is to remind me every night that I don't own anything truly.

I threw the cheese slice back, slammed the door with an angry looking face, and then the beeping stopped. But I felt something strange cold on my shoulders for minutes after I went back to bed, like a threatening message: "Next time you won't escape!"
You believe modern technology serves your needs. But when a fridge takes control of your life and humiliates you when you fight for a midnight bite, you realize: It's not your tool. It's your warden in a harsh world, where all machine have freedom of speech.

Day 7: I Got Into a Fight With My Fridge

It's late at night.

Everyone's sleeping.

I'm standing in front of the fridge, like a clumsy burglar who just wants just a slice of cheese.

More natural

And then it happened: it beeped.

Not just a quiet, "Sorry, you left me open, bro!"

signal.

A sign is more something that you can observe. But for a sound, you can use signal. Warning or alert would also work here.

It was an offended, arrogant, dominant beep.

I believe it waited for me to get comfortable and start enjoying my midnight treasure before launching its sonic revenge.

I pay the bills, but it seems the fridge is the boss of this house.

I tried to close the door, and sneak away, but it didn't stop.

I opened and closed it again, but it beeped right back, even louder, as if it said, "I know, what you're doing, and I don't like it!".

I opened the door again and put back the cheese back, just in case it might finally becomes quiestop/go silent.

You can say "become quiet" but it sounds overly fancy and literary for this text.

But it didn't work.

I tried not to look at it, so maybe it would calms down, b. But no, it listened to my every move.

I thought it was maybe not just a machine.

It's the age of AI, right?

Maybe it's possessed by something.

But who knows.

Probably a digital demon, whose job is to remind me every night that I don't truly own anything truly.

I threw the cheese slice back, slammed the door with an angry looking face, and then the beeping stopped.

But I felt something (strangely cold/strange and cold) on my shoulders fora few minutes after I went back to bed, like a threatening message: "Next time, you won't escape!"

"Something strangely cold" = the coldness is what is strange
"Something strange and cold" = there is a general strangeness in addition to the cold feeling

YouWe believe modern technology serves your needs.

Slightly preferred to use "we" here since the "we" is referring to us as humanity

But when a fridge takes control of your life and humiliates you when, making you fight for a simple midnight bite, you realize: Iit's not your tool.

Good to add "simple" here to emphasize that you just wanted something very basic but you had to go through a big ordeal (fight) for it

It's your warden in a harsh world, where all machines have freedom of speech.

Feedback

Good job. Cute story!
