yesterday
Today, I finished reading The Hobbit. It took me half a month. To be honest, I watched the movie trilogy many years ago, and also read the translated version of the book. So, I was able to read it quite smoothly. It is also thanks to the author's preference of using simple words and expressions that are vivid and effective. I will try to write a bit more tomorrow.
Thanks for making my writing more natural!
To be honest, I watched the movie trilogy many years ago, and also read the translated version of the book.
The phrase "To be honest," doesn't really make sense here. It's more often used when trying to say something unexpected, or controversial, or contradicting a previously held belief/thought, e.g.
"To be honest, I didn't really like it" (despite it being popular)
"To be honest, I actually cheated" (on a test that you passed)
"To be honest, I never liked her anyway" (after breaking up with a girlfriend, despite you actually liking her while you were dating)
"To be honest, it wasn't actually that bad" (despite "it" felling like it was bad when "it" happened (what ever "it" may have been))
SoTherefore, I was able to read it quite smoothly.
Alternate suggestion:
"So that meant I was able to read it quite smoothly"
"Which meant I was able to read it quite smoothly"
ItThis is also thanks to the author's preference of using simple words and expressions that are vivid and effective.
I will try to write a bit more tomorrow.

Great Job! The only major mistake was the way you used the phrase "to be honest," so hopefully I did a good job of explaining it! Best of luck!

There's a reason why these books remain popular in spite of their age. :)
