I am applying for the trainee NatCat Modelling position since it is an excellent opportunity to apply my knowledge to an important field as the analysis and assessment of natural risks.
[Company] will benefit from my wide knowledge in multiple topics related to the environmental sciences (bachelor’s degree), particularly in meteorological sciences (master’s degree), which allows me to understand the most important factors or causes behind a natural disaster. For instance, land use and composition as well as vegetation is crucial when it comes to understand the causes of a flooding, not to mention intense and unusual precipitation patterns. Regarding to fires, pyrophyte plant species, such as, Eucalyptus and Pinus spp, belong to temperatures, relative humidity and wind speed, which is commonly knows as 30-30-30 rule, are among the most common causes of natural fires.
With respect to the computer skills demanded in this position, I completely master MS Office packages. In addition to this, I am very good at programming with R, Matlab and Fortran. Thanks to my degree and specialization I am familiar with working with databases and performing data analysis, particularly when associated with environmental variables. As a result, I will find it easy to manage large amount of data in SQL.
I enjoy working in a team and can also work independently, which is especially important when working with complex information.
