Closure of Post Office Loved by Locals

I live in an idyllic place surrounded by rice fields. Our local post office closed at the end of March. This was the only post office located in our district away from the urban area.

Since its opening, this office had been operated by a local mother and daughter for more than 30 years. They gave us the reason for the closure that the operation became tougher for them as they grew older. Within a 10-minute walk from my house, it was convenient. My husband and I went there at least once a week to buy postcards and stamps, manage savings, or receive our pension.

On the last day of the operation, we called on the operators with confectionery to show our gratitude. A lot of flower bouquets occupied the service window. We reaffirmed that this place was loved and cherished by local people. Quite a few people seemed to stay there chatting even after they finished what they wanted.

In the days ahead we have to get to another post office far away by car or train, which will cause us inconvenience. However, I know everything has its beginning and end: the way of the world. I'm just grateful for the two operators running the post office tirelessly year in and year out, except for holidays.

Thank you!

I live in an idyllic place surrounded by rice fields.

Incredible word usage! I had to look up the word "idyllic" because I wasn't 100% sure of its meaning.

They gave us the reason for the closureinformed us that the operation became tougher for them as they grew older.

What you wrote is not wrong, just a bit inefficient. You could also say: They gave us the reason for the closure. It was becoming too tough for them as they grew older.

Within a 10-minute walk from my house, it was convenient.

Nothing is wrong with the sentence, it just had a very narrative tone like that of Sir David Attenborough. In regular conversation one might usually say something like: Since it was a 10 minute walk from my house, it was convenient. However, your word choice is very efficient in this sentence, just narrator sounding.

We reaffirmed that this place was loved and cherished by local people.s

Quite a few people seemed to stay there chatting even after they finished or (finished doing what they wanted).

In the days ahead we have to geto to another post office far away by car or train, which will cause usbe an inconvenience.

Because inconvenience already means "to cause difficulty" adding cause before it is not usually done. Alternatively one could say: creates an inconvenience.

It's so sad when a local store closes.

In my case, it was my favorite bookstore. I felt empty on its last day, but as you said, that is the way of the world

The situation is the same here in Japan. Bookstores in rural areas have closed one after another.

"Operation" and "operators" have kind of a military or medical & industrial connotation. "Employees" or "postal workers" fits better.

AThere were a lot of flower bouquets occupiedleft in the service window.

Saying that the bouquets _occupied_ the service window makes it sound kind of like the bouquets got there on their own, or that they were being obstructive.
