Christmas

Today is Christmas, and a few foreigners asked me if Chinese people celebrate this holiday.

I just briefly answered them, but I don't think I expressed myself well because my English speaking is not good.

So I want to write the answer down because I think my writing is better than my speaking.

A few years ago, Chinese people celebrated Christmas. Of course, I am referring to young people.

As far as I remember, every year when Christmas comes, those hotels, bars, malls will do a lot of work for Christmas.

They buy a lot of Christmas decorations, such as Christmas trees, stickers, gift bags, candies, and so on.

And on Christmas, they will choose a few of their staff to pretend to be Santa Claus to attract their customers' attention.

Of course, they will give a big discount on their products or services, and accompany them with many promotional activities.

So, during Christmas, young people will become too busy and excited, as well as tired. They go to bars, drink, and dance.

They are dating, hanging out with friends. It seems they want to make the fullest on Christmas.

Maybe around 2015, our government showed its attitude towards foreign holidays, especially Christmas.

It doesn't advocate Chinese people to celebrate foreign holidays instead of advocating that we Chinese should celebrate our traditional holidays, such as Mid-Autumn Festival and Spring Festival, and so on.

Since then, the Christmas atmosphere has gradually declined. Merchants no longer decorate and promote during Christmas, therefore, young people no longer take part in Christmas.

So if you are walking on the streets today in my city, you can't tell that it's Christmas from what you look at.

Anyway, in my opinion, holidays are just for young people and children. It's not for old people because old people seem not to care about this.

Today is Christmas, and a few foreigners asked me if Chinese people celebrate this holiday.

I just briefly answered them, but I don't think I expressed myself well because my spoken English speaking is notis not (very) good.

So I want to write the answer down because I think my writing is better than my speaking.

A few years ago, Chinese people celebrated Christmas.

Of course, I am referring to young people.

As far as I remember, every year when Christmas comes, those hotels, bars, malls willould do a lot of work for Christmas.

Here, the conditional can be used for a habitual action in the past.

They buy a lot of Christmas decorations, such as Christmas trees, stickers, gift bags, candies, and so on.

And on Christmas, they willould choose a few of their staff to pretend to be Santa Claus to attract their customers' attention.

Of course, they will give aould offer big discounts on their products or services, and accompany them with many promotional activitiedisplay lots of advertisements.

Or "and do lots of marketing."

So, during Christmas, young people willould become too busy and excited, as well as tired.

They go to bars, drink, and dance.

Not sure if you're writing about the past or present since some of the previous sentences are in the past. I'm assuming you're writing in the present tense now - but just remember to keep that consistent!

They are dating, hangidate and hang out with friends.

Present simple here to describe a general, habitual action. "They are hanging out" would be used to describe something happening *right now* - like "What are your friends doing tonight?" "I think they're hanging out and watching a movie."

It seems they want to make the fullemost onf Christmas.

"make the most of" = set phrase

Maybe around 2015, our government showed its attitude towardsclarified its position on foreign holidays, especially Christmas.

It doesn't advocate Chinese peoplcondone tohe celebrateion of foreign holidays and instead of advocatmaintaings that we Chinese people should celebrate our traditional holidays, such as Mid-Autumn Festival and Spring Festival, and so on.

"To maintain that" = to believe that, to argue that

Since then, the Christmas atmosphere has gradually declined.

Merchants no longer decorate and promotadvertise during Christmas, therefore,so young people no longer take part in Christmasthe holiday.

You could keep "therefore," but you would have to put a semicolon after "Christmas" (;).

So if you are walking odown the streets today in my city, you cawon't tell thatbe able to tell it's Christmas from what youjust by look ating.
