Bread Making Failed

My daughter said that she wanted to make some bread by herself this morning, I encouraged her, and all of us were looking forward to enjoying the fresh bread. We bought an electric home use oven which is 50cm long, 50cm wide and 60cm high. We have never baked bread before because we don't know how to make it.
We prepared some essential ingredients like flour, butter, egg, and yeast for her. She did that hard and seriously. We were not surprised to see the final result this evening, you can see the picture I attached here below.
Yes, the first tray of bread she made failed. The bread can be eaten but not soft. The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the cough, so proof dough failed.
We will be doing better next time I believe.

It seems that there are not many words to praise a dish in Japanese, most of them are "美味し", and even native Japanese only speak this word. There are many words like "delicious, " "delectable" and "sweet"..in English. And of course, that's because I don't know.

Thank you very much! Yes, 'not soft' should be changed to 'dense', and 'cough' was a typo of 'dough'. It's amazing and most of us don't know that some bread has no eggs, you are kind of professional in baking.

We have never baked bread before because we don't know how to make it.

The bread can be eaten but not soft.

The bread can be eaten but not softit's too dense. The bread can be eaten but it's too dense.

going back to this after reading that you thought proofing was the problem (i wasn't sure what "soft" meant originally): bread can be too dense if it doesn't have a lot of air bubbles in it. if you don't let your dough proof properly, the gluten in it won't stretch while it bakes to let the air pockets form, making a really heavy, dense bread, that's edible but not very good haha.

The bread can be eaten but it's not soft. The bread can be eaten but it's not soft.

The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the cough, so proof dough failed.

The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the cdough, so proof dough failed during proofing. The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the dough during proofing.

i'm guessing cough was just a typo, and if you want to talk about bread that has already undergone proofing, you call it "proofed dough" with a soft F sound, not like V

The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the cdough, so proofing the dough failed. The key mistake is probably due to not fully covering the dough, so proofing the dough failed.
