I seem to have a love–hate relationship with Duolingo, because I’ve downloaded and deleted this app many times. Recently, I started using Chinese to learn English. At first, I did it out of curiosity. Now, after seeing the practice speaking function, I feel I made the right decision. I think my spoken English is just average. Due to my native language's influence, my English pronunciation is average. We Nigerians have many accent-related issues. For example, "plait" is pronounced /plæt/, but we pronounce it like plate (/pleɪt/). And if someone says the correct pronunciation, it may sound like a foreign language to them.
