Book - A Shot in the Dark - 76

Summary no. 76

Sergeant Brunswick checked out all the places where Masie would usually hang around. He found no signs of her whatsoever. What made things worse was that constable Twitten seemed to have disappeared as well. The more Brunswick proceeded, the more he seemed on the verge of finding out something dreadful. He decided to look out for Twitten at the station quarters*. Even though Twitten had been transferred to the Brighton constabulary only a week or so ago, it seemed he had never reported** to the station quarters. Brunswick found only a suitcase—brought there by a courier—and decided to search it in pursuit of leads. What he found unsettled him even more. Brunswick seriously considered if Twitten could be an impostor as well as a sociopath. He couldn’t shake off the thought that Twitten may have kidnapped Masie.

*By that I meant the place where police officers live or sleep. I couldn’t find the proper expression.

**By that I meant that Twitten never went there
