Sergeant Brunswick was back in his office at the police station. The Inspector wasn’t in yet, so Brunswick just sat at his desk, reflecting on the recent events. Brunswick had long been a fan of Harry Jupiter’s, the Daily Clarion journalist, so the news that he was in hospital and that he seemed to have lost his memory had shocked Brunswick. He was going to be mentioned in an upcoming article of Jupiter, so naturally the man had been looking forward to it. No wonder he was now in low spirits, his excitement of yesterday drained away. It was only Mrs Groynes entering the office that brought his mind back to the present. He always found her presence comforting. If only he knew that she was a criminal mastermind and had deceived them all for years. Thus, he wasn’t wary at all when she brought up Harry Jupiter and the ongoing investigation. That was simply classic Mrs Groynes, with her need for gossip.
