Bias

Chinese people always say: girls are bad at maths. Besides, they also like to say: girls are bad at studying, especially science.
It is very common for Chinese girls who get high scores as primary school students or middle school students exprience the stuff like this: people keep telling you that even though you are good at study now, but it will be very hard for you after you enter senior high school, and your scores will become lower. At the same time, people exclaim that: boys improve themselves quite fast if they focus on studying because they are so smart, the main reason why they get lower grade is their laziness, while the only reason of girls get great grade is their hard work.
I think they are totally bullshit and sexism.
I always keep telling to the parents that the theories don't make sense, they are just bias. Sometimes there are some cases you know coincidently can prove your view, though. It is more likely because people keep implying girls that they will screw up their studies, and unfortunately, it works. Then you just see what you want to see, and take it as example or evidence to prove your theory. (There is a professional word explain the phenomenon, but I've forgetton.)

This could easily be one sentence in Chinese, but in English it needs to be broken up, even though there's only one main idea throughout.

Then, you just see what you want to see, and take it as example or evidence to prove your theory.

(There is a professional word explain theis phenomenon, but I've forgeottoen.)

I'm not sure if there's a word specifically for the girls doing worse when they're told that they're doing worse, if there is I can't remember it. This is a similar concept to confirmation bias, though. You might also look at negative reinforcement.

Feedback

Nice writing! It's a shame that attitudes towards women excelling in non-traditional spheres are so hostile, I hope that changes with newer generations in China.
