Astringent Persimmon
My mother’s friend gave us 3 fine persimmons.
Those were big and it looked delicious.
The friend said, “You can eat it with a spoon after fully ripening.”
After 2 weeks, I touched it and found that it had become softer than before, so we decided to try it.
I cut a persimmon in half and my mother took a bite with a spoon.
Then soon she made a weird face, and spat it out.
She said, “This is terrible, my mouth is very numb, like when I had an anesthesia at the dentist.”
It was astringent persimmons.
Then we remembered that my mother’s friend said, “after fully ripening.”
Looks like we should have waited longer.
I doubt whether this persimmon will actually become be sweet, though…

Yikes! Maybe the other ones will sweeten up in the next couple days or weeks. I wonder if there's an easy way to tell whether they're ready to eat without cutting one open.
