In the summer of 2018, I joined a tourist group to Inner Mongolia. I visited Hulun Buir, which is a vast grassland. That was the first time I was on a grassland. So I was shocked to see the grassland for the first time.

When I stood on the grassland and looked around, all I could see was the distant horizon, and grass, sheep, cows and horses. There were not any trees, villages, or even people.

The sky was extremely blue and the clouds were so white and low. It felt like people could grab the clouds just by jumping up.

When I was standing there and looking around, I couldn't help shouting loudly into the distance.

Your version isn’t wrong. It just sounds more natural to me this way.

When I stood on the grassland and looked around, all I could see was the distant horizon, and grass, sheep, cows and horses.

There were not any trees, villages, or even people.

Your version isn’t wrong, but we usually put “were not” into it’s contraction form “weren’t,” unless you’re trying to be emphatic.

The sky was extremely blue and the clouds were so white and low.

It felt like people could grab the clouds just by jumping up.

When I was standing there and looking around, I couldn't help but shouting loudly into the distance.
