Recently, a new ordinance regarding the use of ambulance has been enacted in my prefecture. Before, there was no charge for calling an ambulance in the case of sudden illness at night or on holidays, but in cases where medical staff determine that the situation is not urgent, an ambulance fee will be charged. Since some patients call an ambulance without much thought, the authority was urging the public to refrain from calling ambulances instead of taxis. I agree with this decision.
Actually, I have called an ambulance twice so far. One time was when I got hyperventilated during an argument with my husband. Another was when I was hit with a continuing stomach pain at midnight. I remember that my husband and I both got upset, but it was not anything too serious. We should have stayed calm and waited until the next day.
Amid rising prices and labor shortages, medical workers are now facing various problems. To cooperate with them, it would be better for those of us who are relatively healthy not to rely on ambulances too easily. Furthermore, we need to acquire medical knowledge to some extent and determine if our current condition is urgent or not. Well, if I don't mind dying at worst, I probably won't call an ambulance. It’s a joke though.
