What Features Do You Wish LangCorrect had?

First thing that came to my mind after reading this prompt is pronunciation. I'd really like to be able to post some samples of it here and get even more constructive feedback. A feature like reading your text aloud and then attaching the recording to the post would come very handy for me, since phonetics is something I am passionate about. After an update like this, LangCorrect could attract a new, even larger audience of language learners. Additionally, being able to chat privately would also be quite useful. I've already heard that this feature was removed, so there was probably a solid reason for that.
I really liked the last update, and I am glad that this website is on the move.

What Features Do You Wish LangCorrect hHad?

FThe first thing that came to my mind after reading this prompt is pronunciation.

Feedback

One way to receive pronunciation feedback is to upload a video with narration to a YouTube channel and include the link in a LangCorrect post. As you may have noticed, Tammy does this. Maybe it could be done through other recording options as well. I added Google Translate as an extension on my laptop, so I can highlight and translate anything I want to read on this site. Google Translate gives me accurate enough pronunciation for short German sentences, and the English I have sampled when I click on it by mistake is good.

Yeah, I think I saw his posts. But as far as I remember, he barely got any constructive feedback to his pronunciation at all, just a few compliments. That's not what I am aiming for. I wish there were a website where you could sort of divide your recording into sentences and then correct them one by one, pointing out the wrong word stress, pronunciation mistakes, and (for advanced speakers) some subtle nuances, like the melody of the sentence. I was acquainted with a few phonetic nerds who would give me that kind of detailed feedback, but nobody wants to do it for free long-term ;D And again, if there are only a few correctors interested in giving that sort of feedback, the private-message feature could come very handy. Thanks for your corrections!

Got it. If there isn't a website for this, there should be. I think it would be too much to integrate with the simple focus on writing here; but done well, it could have a wider audience (and that might support the extra work and demands of audio?). I guess the first step is to see what is out there. The search might include tools for actors, for example.

On the other hand, what you are describing could also be done through a platform that matches people one on one, such as iTalki; or maybe you could find a native speaker in your area who would like to do this in exchange for help with Russian.

One final thought: have you tried any of the various "Text to Speech" options for computers that read aloud text? These have come a long way in English, and you might find something helpful.

Back to your post: I have some additional feedback for "on the move." I had a very slight sense that it might be useful to investigate. (I think this sense might be like the tingling sensation that Spider-Man gets, sometimes called his "spidey sense," only his is for danger and mine is for usage.)

Remember when you asked me if I had a favorite dictionary, and I said I use more than one? Well here is an example of that. AI, that indiscriminate collector, gave a variety of applications for the idiom. But I wanted to know which were more and less used because the way you used it did not seem very common to me.

Sure enough, Cambridge gave me two definitions: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/us/dictionary/english/be-on-the-move For additional perspective (because, obviously there are other uses) I checked American Heritage, https://ahdictionary.com/word/search.html?q=on+the+move There, three applications are given, and the one you use is least common.

I certainly found sentence examples that used "on the move" in the same way for businesses, etc. The similar idiom I would consider with a clear direction is "moving forward."

At this point, it's time to move on.

Haha, thanks again for delving so deep in these nuances, I appreciate it! I've never heard about American Heritage before, going to give it a try.
I use TTS from Google every time I create an Anki card and it's pretty good for quickly learning the right word stress. I also add IPA transcription for some intimidating words like "mischievous". But receiving real feedback from a native (US) speaker is not comparable with these tools at all. It's like preferring Gemini AI to LangCorrect 😀

Oh, and I don't think there are any native English speakers in my area. At all. However, I've met numerous language exchange partners on the Internet, and some of them just wanted to speak with a Russian, not even learn the language. That's fine with me :D

It's amazing really, that you have developed such a strong command of English with so little contact with native speakers. I apologize for that suggestion. It was naive at best, possibly insensitive, and a lapse in judgment, plain and simple.

I thought you didn't like the word "plain" 🤔

I'm not a fan, no, but I used a phrase I don't like purposefully as part of my apology, to show I know I can be wrong.

Might be good to use an "although" or a "however": "Although, I've already heard that..." But this is just a minor nitpick.

I really liked the last update, and I am glad that this website is on the move.

Feedback

Being able to record audio could be pretty useful, although I imagine storing and handling audio files as well as just text might be difficult. Audio samples are massive compared to text files! And I'm not sure how much everyone (including myself) would actually use it. We'll see, I guess. It could definitely be useful for English, though, or any other languages that tend to have inconsistent pronunciation rules.

Yeah, it's probably a pretty niché thing compared to writinf. I think that by adding it as a premium-feature and by giving everyone a few free recordings to upload, this site could also increase its income!
