Bandyci mieli ciężki torby. Oni poszli do klif [side of a rock?].
Kapitan bandytów powiedział hasło — Otwórz się, Sezamie! — i jaskinia otworzył.
Ali-baba poczekął [czekał?] aż bandyci weszli w jaskini.
Oni się pojawili póżniej bez torb i wychodzili.
Question: Am I right in guessing that simple past tense stories mostly use perfective verbs... poczekał = he waited (not czekał = he was waiting).
The bandits had heavy bags. The bandits went to a cliff.
The captain of the bandits spoke a password - Open Sesame - and a cave opened.
Ali-baba waited while the bandits entered the cave.
They emerged later with no bags and departed.
Bandyci mieli ciężkie torby.
The adjective also needs to be plural since "torby" is plural
Oni pPoszli do klifu [side of a rock?
You don't always need to repeat the subject in Polish. In this case it's clear you're talking about the bandits and the subject is implied and it sounds weird with "oni".
].
Kapitan bandytów powiedział hasło — Otwórz się, Sezamie!
— i jaskinia otworzyłotworzyła się jaskinia.
Jaskinia is a feminine noun, so the verb agreement is necessary
Also it needs to be reflective - the cave opened itself up, it didn't open anything else
Ali-baba poczekąał [czekał?]
either czekał or poczekał would work depending on what you want to convey
aż bandyci weszli wdo jaskini.
Oni się pPojawili się póżniej bez torb i wychodzili.
Feedback
As per your question, I don't think your guess is entirely accurate, if I was telling a story I would use the perfective and imperfective aspect depending on whether the action was finished or not since that's how we do it in Polish.. if you want to find out more you should read up on "czas dokonany / niedokonany"
