About horror media
When I was a child, my parents were very protective and they liked to control what I watched. It was not as bad as it sounds, though. I mostly watched cartoons and I really enjoyed it, but my friends at school used to make fun of me because I'd never watched a horror movie before. I had this friend that would just sit and list movie names non-stop for minutes checking if I really had never seen any of them and she would always insist that I should watch "The Mummy".
Then, one Sunday when I was 9 or 10 years-old, the movie "The Mummy" was going to be shown on TV. I asked my parents if I could watch it and they said it was okay. We all sat in front of the TV and I remember feeling very scared. Not because the movie, though. I was scared about the possibility of being scared. In the end, the movie wasn't even really scary, I remember thinking. It was actually funny.
I still feel the same thing whenever I watch horror movies of play horror games, scared about the possibility of being scared. But I adapted quite well to other pieces of horror medias. I love to read horror books and some of my favourite podcasts nowadays are horror podcasts. I think that the trick is to let my imagination do all the job. Also, it's more difficult to get a jump scare out of a book or a podcast.

But again, this is a really nit-picky comment, and most native English speakers don't know the English subjunctive.

Most of the podcasts I listen to are in English. I like listening to them when I'm drawing or riding the bus to work (not now, though, because of the quarantine). I also trying audiobooks. I've never heard about this author before, but I give it a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

The phrase "jump scare", when you are speaking informally about horror to fans of horror, is correct and immediately understood. If you are writing for an audience unfamiliar with the horror genre ("genre" includes books and movies and podcasts and short stories and haunted houses and plays... everything 'entertainment' that is horror) or writing formally (for school or work), the other option "be startled by" is a better fit. So, it depends.
