Quizzing from English to Japanese sounds like you're training your translation skills, not necessarily your comprehension skills. Using a language in most day-to-day settings involves immediate understanding, not careful (maybe deliberate sounds better?) thinking about what was just said or read. In that sense reviewing from Japanese to English while focusing on the general meaning WITHOUT trying to translate seems like the right way to go about it.

Feedback
Without much context, I don't really know what is going on. I'm understanding "Quizzing from English to Japanese" as a product name, so I'm correcting based on that. Other than that, my hyphen (-) corrections may just be a stylistic choice on my end, but I think it feels much better. Well done, very well written comment :)
