I am preparing for IELTS, I can't hardly remember new words. At the same time, I can't hardly remember new Chinese words when I am reading. It seems like my brain has set up a wall to protect itself from the outside world since I graduated.

"can hardly/barely" is used to mean "hard time being able to". "can't" wouldn't be used here.

Well written, as for your memory issues, may I suggest using an SRS app like Anki, or just Spaced Repitition systems in general? (You can try looking up for more detail if you don't already use them, they're really helpful).
