In northern China, especially in winter, many people go to public bathhouses to take a shower or soak in hot pools. These bathhouses usually have separate areas for males and females, but everyone bathes together in the same large space. It’s common to be completely naked in front of others.
For people from southern China — or even other countries — this might seem strange or uncomfortable, because they’re used to showering privately at home in a modern bathroom.
But in the north, this is not just about cleaning — it’s also part of the social culture. People chat, relax, and even bring their kids. It’s like a small community gathering!

It would be expected that people from other countries might find this tradition strange, but it's even strange for people from a different region of the same country.
