Since I understand most Japanese are cremated and a stone marker is used to mark the grave, I would use the term "grave" or "grave marker".

It's hard to explain why.. we use malfunction to talk about large things with moving parts (e.g. something in a factory) or sometimes about organs in our body (e.g. "kidney malfunction"). But the meaning and your use of the word makes perfect sense.

You can start your sentence with:
"In case of data issues, due to GPS error caused by recent solar flare activity, ...."
"In case of inaccurate data, due to GPS error caused by recent solar flare activity, ..."
etc.
