Here is the sentence: “An app created for the purpose leads walkers from starting point to finish by means of a chain of photos, each image taking over from where the previous one leaves off.”
I wander that can the word “taking” in the sentence be replaced by “is taken” ?
A Question
Here is the sentence: “An app created for the purpose of leadsing walkers from starting point A to finishpoint B by means of a chain of photos, each image taking over from where the previous one leaves off.”
Unsure of the origin of this sentence but as it did not read naturally to me I corrected it - specifically "for the purpose of"
Start-finish sounds like a race so I thought point A and point B would be better
I waonder that canif the word “taking” in the sentence can be replaced by “is taken” ?
I would say that the word "taking" can be replaced by "takes" if you split it into two sentences
"An app created for the purpose of leading walkers from point A to point B by means of a chain of photos. Each image takes over from where the previous one leaves off.”
I don't know the technical reason why, but I think it's because "takes" and "taking" have more of an active voice than "is taken" which is passive
