A Promise to Myself

A few months ago, I compared my English score on Duolingo with one of my English-learning friends. At that time I just got a score of around 90. To encourage myself, I said to myself, that if I reached a score of 105, I would dub one of my videos instead of just adding subtitles.

About a month ago, Duolingo added 10 to my score from nowhere, so the target turned to 115.

Yesterday, I finally had a score of 115. Then I started to prepare this video, and now I'm uploading it.

You can see it here: https://youtu.be/mg64cGfcObM

It might be very easy and simple for you, but it's a big thing for me because speaking in English is kind of my nightmare.

Could you give me some feedback?

Thanks in advance!

Could you give me some feedback?

Of course! Thank you for sharing this video! The trees really are beautiful.

Your English was very good, so I don't have much feedback to give. That said, here are the two small points:
1) You said "When I hike, I enjoy stopping frequently to find the beautiful scenery." --> this is correct, but the wording is strange. An English speaker would convey the same thing by saying, "When I hike, I stop frequently to enjoy the beautiful scenery." ('find' is not used in this context, using you are finding something specific. For example: I went on a hike to find a beautiful old tree.)

2) "Did you see that? The tree forked at the bottom." --> this is correct, but the exchange is a bit strange. To sound more natural, switch to the present tense: "Do you see that? The tree forks at the bottom." (to the audience, what you are saying and showing in the film is happening in the present).

Thank you again for sharing this video! I appreciate your trust in us native English-speakers on this site. You did a fantastic job!

Thank you so much for such detailed advice! I'm going to change these two points in the subtitles.

Have a nice weekend!

A few months ago, I compared my English score on Duolingo with one of my English-learning friends.

You could consider replacing "just" with "only" to emphasize dissatisfaction.

To encourage myself, I said to myself, that if I reached a score of 105, I would dub one of my videos instead of just adding subtitles.

Remove the comma because "I said to myself" is an essential clause which does not need a comma.

Nice job! Your speaking is nowhere as bad as you think. As for your written English, there's not much wrong, just some minor grammar, convention, and punctuation errors.

Not an error, but usually you would not say "myself" twice like this.

A few months ago, I compared my English score on Duolingo with one of my English-learning friends.

At that time I just got a score of just around 90.

The nuance of a sentence changes depending on where you put the word "just". If you say "I just got [...]", it means that you got something at that moment in time. Saying "just around 90" here means that you weren't quite satisfied with your score.

To encourage myself, I said to myself, that if I reached a score of 105, I would dub one of my videos instead of just adding subtitles.

Well done, Tammy! You did great in the dubbing of the video. I used to be a part-time English teacher, and your English-speaking reminds me of my most advanced students.
