A Pandemic

Smallpox was a terrible disease.
Hernando de Soto, a Spanish explorer, came to Arkansas in 1592.
In eastern Arkansas, he saw many Native Americans.
From 1592 to 1673, no other Europeans came to Arkansas.
By 1673, Arkansas was sparsely populated, with most of the native people having died of smallpox.
It is a sad story, but one that people today should be aware of, especially after our recent pandemic.
For example, smallpox still exists and during a war it could be released on the world.
In addition, someone could recreate the disease or create something very similar to it in the laboratory!
In the last pandemic, most of us survived.
Imagine this: the world order breaks down and someone releases smallpox.
The countries of the world no longer exist in their current form and 90% of all earthlings die of a new pandemic of smallpox.
It could happen.

The countries of the world no longer exist in their current form and 90% of all earthlingspeople die of a new pandemic of smallpox.

"Earthlings" is a very science-fiction word, and typically something a fictional alien would call humans in a book or movie. In this more serious piece of non-fiction writing, it would be better to just say "people" or "humans".

It could happen.
