A Memory
The first song by Teresa Teng l have heard is "Tian Mimi"
Decades ago, I was a middle school student. I think it would be the first year of middle school. In the spring, some young boys and young girls who were in their 20 s coming from my home county seat were doing telegram practice on the playground of the school. The playground was out of the school but not so far.
Every time they did their telegram practice in the playground, they would carry a fancy recorder and play a song called Tian Mimi sung by Teresa Teng.
I had never heard that kind of song in my life. It's a very beautiful and nice song, together with a group of young people, spring time and that big modern recorder. I couldn't describe what my feelings were when I was listening to the song.
It's a very sweet and relaxing song anyway. Everyone likes to listen to it.
I have known of Teresa Teng since then. I think she is a great singer. No matter how bad a song is, it will become sweet and nice as long as it is sung by Teresa Teng.

By the way, do you know how Chinese telegrams are sent? In English, we have codes (combinations of short & long beeps) for each letter, and we spell out the words letter-by-letter. I wonder how this works in Chinese—for example, is each character assigned a number, and telegraph operators have to memorize all of the numbers, and then code the numbers as combinations of short & long beeps)?
Never mind, I just looked it up in Wikipedia and learned that, indeed, there's a code book in which each character is assigned a code, and the telegraph operators have to memorize the numbers (or look them up in the book), and then send them over the telegraph lines as short & long beeps. That must be really hard.
