It is known as El lagarto de Jaén, ''Jaén's lizard''. It was written in the 16th century anonymously. Actually, the mith describes a dragon, although people refer to it as a lizard now.
The story says there was a cave beside the fountain of La Magdalena, in which a giant lizard lived in, a dragon. This dragon terrorized and devoured people and sheep who went there to get water or walked around there. The people of this neighborhood were so scared that they didn't dare to go to get water. The situation became unbearable and they looked for a solution. They sacrificed a sheep. They removed its organs and filled the animal with gunpowder. They left the sheep near the fountain and waited for the dragon to come out. It ate the sheep as soon as it saw it, and then, people shot the dragon. Since it ate a grand amount of gunpowder, the dragon exploded.
There are several versions of the death of the dragon, but in the majority of them it died because of an explosion. Now there is a statue of the lizard in the fountain where it was thought it dwelled.

Slightly more natural to my ear: "to go and get water".

Slightly more natural: "filled its body" or "filled the carcass".

What a dramatic legend! I've always thought that if there's one thing mythology needs, it's more explosions :)
