A group of fish

I saw a group of fish on my trail last Saturday. You can watch them in this video: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/arqoE7U9kRY

They are so lovely!

I couldn't get enough of watching them until my friend told me to keep hiking.

I asked a question in the video title: "How many little fish did you see?" Well, I must admit that I don't know the correct answer either.

A group of fish

A group of fish is called a "school": A School of Fish

I saw a group of fish on mythe trail last Saturday.

suggestion: I saw a school of minnows on the trail last Saturday.
Juvenile fish are called minnows.
"On the trail" and "along the trail" would both be fine, as would "on my hike," as suggested by other correctors.

They move too quickly for me to count :-)

I like their striped bodies --- I suppose the striping serves a camouflage to make it harder for predators to see them.

I wonder what they'll look like after they mature --- they might look totally different!

Well, I must admit that I don't know the correct answer either.

谢谢!

所有的小鱼都可以叫minnow么?

溪石斑鱼最长的大概20cm左右,大概就是小时候的拉长版。

Technically, a minnow refers to a specific type of fish, but the word is often used generically.

Yes, I think you’re right. Where I grew up we called all hatchling fish “minnows,” but checking it in a dictionary just now, it seems that most people only use “minnow” for small silvery fish that never grow very big, even at maturity. 🤷‍♂️
