My Elementary School

The elementary school that I studied in was in the back of my village. Between them, there was a small river. The river was around my village. Only in the center of the south side of the village was there an entrance.

So, every time other children in my village and I went to school, we had to go to the village entrance first, and then, went along the outside of the river to the north to the school.

To the east, west and north, there were three other villages, together with my village using the same school.

The school was very simple, it only had about ten rooms which connected in a row from east to west.

The school had five grades in total. Each grade had only one class with about 30 students.

I studied there for 4.5 years. For the last half a year of grade five, I transferred to another elementary school in another village because grade five in the elementary school in my village was dismissed.

I don't know when the school in my village disappeared. I went to study in the city where I live now when I was 15 years old. The school may disappear around the 00's while I didn't live in my village.

Nowadays, many elementary schools in the countryside have disappeared. It's said that because many parents in the countryside prefer sending their children to study in their County towns.

Although the elementary school in my village disappeared a long time ago, I can remember what it looked like.

How did you cross the river?

It's said that this is because many parents in the countryside prefer sending their children to study in their C[county towns].

What is a “county town”?

Because the river surrounded my village and it looked like a square, its two sides were inside and outer side. When we went to school, we went out through the exit of the village first, then along with the outside the river went to east or west and turned north to go to the school.

Did I understand correctly that the river ran between your village and the school? If so, I’m having trouble visualizing how you could get from the village to the school without crossing the river. I guess I’d have to see a map.

No, the only social media I use is LinkedIn, which wouldn’t work well for this purpose. Maybe you could post it to a public site like imgur and share the link here? https://imgur.io/
