Shanghai is located on the eastern coast of China, facing the Pacific Ocean to the east.
It is bordered by the East China Sea in the east, Hangzhou Bay in the south, Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces in the west, and the Yangtze River mouth in the north. It is part of the flat plain formed by river deposits in the Yangtze River Delta, with the terrain sloping gently from west to east (higher in the west, lower in the east). The whole area is a plain except for a few hills in the southwest.
Over the past 20,000 years, the Yangtze River mouth has gradually evolved from a giant stepped slope descending gently toward the east into a flat river-deposited plain, as a result of river and ocean erosion and deposition.

How Shanghai Was Formed (1/4) How Shanghai Was Formed (1/4)
Since Shanghai is a city, I would expect this series of posts to talk about the social process that led to the founding of the city.
Shanghai is located on the eastern coast of China, facing the Pacific Ocean (to the east). Shanghai is located on the eastern coast of China, facing the Pacific Ocean (to the east).
As another corrector has noted, “to the east” is redundant.

The parenthetical part is unnecessary, since “higher in the west and lower in the east” is exactly what “sloping from west to east” means.

I’m not sure what level of correction you are looking for here. This sentence is grammatically correct, but I don’t think it works logically. I’m assuming the basic structure of this sentence is supposed to be “the river mouth has evolved from A into B,” but this doesn’t make sense to me, since the river mouth couldn’t have evolved from a giant stepped slope into a flat plain (because, by definition, the river mouth has always been at the edge of the sea, so it can’t have been either of these two things).
Sorry, I guess I just don’t understand what you’re trying to say.

"East" is already implied by "eastern coast", so you can drop it here to avoid the repetition.
