Winter is Coming. Or not?
It was really cold in Shanghai last week. I started using my air conditioner and even my heater while practicing yoga. The trees lining the streets were changing their leaves in preparation for winter, which you can see in the video I captured last Sunday: https://www.youtube.com/shorts/TVrdoTuzqWs
But today, the highest temperature is 17℃.
I hope my plants will be ok with this fast-changing temperature.

To me, air conditioners are for cooling, but I guess some of them can provide heat, too.

“High temperature” is a set phrase, but “highest temperature” isn’t wrong.
I assume you didn’t use “was” because the high temperature hadn’t yet been reached at the time when you wrote this. In this case, we would tend to say the high ”is expected to be 17°,” “is forecast to be” or “will be 17°.”

Yeah, if someone says, “Crank up the A.C.!”, they definitely mean that they’re too hot and they want to cool the room. And in cars, the A/C button only makes cold air come out of the vents, not hot.
