Improve my Accent
Last day, I tried to read a text in English for my boyfriend.
But my accent was horrible.
When I'm alone, I work on my accent everyday with Anki, because I repeat each word with the right prononciation.
And it seems not too bad.
But when I need to speak with someone, it's just like I forgot everything.
I really want to have a better accent... Not perfect, only better.
Do you have any tips to improve my accent? Or some website, applications...

You might already be doing this, but imitating phrases might help? Sometimes how one word flows into the next also contributes to the sound. For example (in American English), if you say "want to" quickly (fluently), it sounds like "wanna." Also, make sure your input is consistent. American English and British English sound different, so don't mix the two.

Thank you! I love British English,it sounds so classy. But maybe American English is easier for a beginner or for a French speaker? Is it difficult for an American native speaker to understand British English?

Typically they can understand each other no problem! The difficulty is probably similar. British English might even be easier? Because the "R" sound is quite harsh in American English and I don't think there's really an equal pronunciation of that in French.

If you ask me, the only thing that matters is correct pronunciation. I think us having different accents is a beautiful thing - especially a French accent in English. The trick is finding the balance of correct pronunciation (being understood) with your accent. I've found French natives to be unnecessarily critical about their own accents. It is not as if all anglophones sound the same - Americans, Canadians, English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh people, Australians, Kiwis, South Africans, etc. all have different accents.
I once met a French woman who spoke English exactly like me (an American), which she worked really hard for and was very proud of. As impressive as that is, I found it sad (and again, unnecessary) that she wanted to entirely erase her accent. But I suppose we all have different reasons and motivations for doing things.

Oh, your message makes so much sense to me and helped me realize something: I actually like my accent. I think it’s fun, and most of the time, English speakers like it too. The problem is the pronunciation. French sounds are really different from some English ones, and I think that’s the root of my difficulty with the language.
