Flamboyant is one of those expressions I’m not confident using. There are many words that ESL learners can’t easily use because it’s hard to imagine the exact situation where they fit. When that happens, I always ask myself, “What kind of person would naturally use this word? And do I belong to that group?”
In the end, I feel that I need more real-life experiences with native speakers to understand how these words are actually used.

Feedback
I feel the same way. 'Flamboyant' is confusing because it can be used as a general adjective, or it can be used as an insult. Usually, it's used to refer to males who dress very flashy and colourful, and because of that it can suggest that the man is homosexual, which can be stereotypical and insulting. It can be used in many contexts actually, such as colourful fashion, but I usually see it used to refer to stereotypical homosexual men.
