I talked with my close friend on the telephone for 3 hours. However, I talked with her for 10 hours last time. It was difficult to arrange my schedule and her schedule because there are time differences, but I’m happy that I could talk to her.

There have even been times where we spoke for 10 hours. -> The even places a stronger emphasis on the sentence, which makes it compare to the 3 hours you were talking about before.
Eg: I eat 2 eggs for breakfast, but when I am hungry I can eat 8.
I eat 2 eggs for breakfast, but when I am hungry I can even eat 8.
The second sentence's even makes the number 8 seem like a number that the author thinks is big. In the first sentence, maybe eating 8 eggs is normal for the author.
For the second sentence, I think I would say:
"Because of the time difference between us, it was difficult to find a good time for both of us, but I am glad we were able to talk."
"The time difference" by itself sounds unnatural because it doesn't tell us where the time difference is. An example might be if someone said: "Because of the gap, we were able to get on the bus."
In the second example, you don't know where the gap exists. Is it a gap in the bus door that you squeezed in? Is it a gap in the people on the bus that let you in? Is it some other gap? That is why it would be a bit unnatural.
That's why corrections can either 1: Fill in the information, such as the one I just posted ("time difference between us") or NSchafer888's correction, who corrects it as "there is a time difference between where we live".
Or 2: Make it more general. My first correction, "because of time differences" doesn't need to tell us which time difference is the problem, just that because time differences exist, problems were caused. However, "because there are time differences" sounds wrong. "There are" is a phrase which talks about specific information, but you don't provide that information, so it sounds weird.
This has been very long, and I am sorry about that. I also think there are lots of exceptions you will find in English, and it is hard to master all of them, so I would not take this as rules to remember. But hopefully this explains why small word choices can sometimes make big differences in how natural sentences sound.
