करी is also correct, but I've heard more people use की instead. I must tell you that I'm from Mumbai. Hindi is spoken very informally here compared to the northern parts of the country. Think of mine as US English and the north Indian one as British English. In schools, even we study north Indian Hindi though. Different cities of India speak Hindi very differently and small differences are generally accepted if you travel elsewhere in the country. ----- "एक दूसरे को समझ सकते है" means "understand each other" "एक दुसरे को समझ पाए!" means "understood each other" The second one might be more appropriate in this context because you're talking about an event from the past.
