今日は視力検査に行きます。

初めてメガネをかけたのは、12歳のときでした。近所の小さいお店で買ったので、少し見た目がよくなかったです。まわりのみんなも同じスタイルのメガネをかけていたので、「このメガネがいや」ではなくて、「メガネはいや」と信じていた。お父さんは理由に気づかなかったけど、メガネをいやがっていることに気づきました。だから、次のメガネを買う時、お父さんは私を驚かせるためにこっそりと店にUVカットをつけることを頼んだ。これで、レンズは日差しに当たると暗くなります。お父さんはこれが「かっこいい」と思っていた。残念ながら、私はこれがもっと嫌いでした。目立ちたくありませんでした。

I'm going to get my eyesight tested today.

The first time I wore glasses, I was 12 years old. They were from a small local shop, so they weren't the most aesthetically pleasing. But everyone around me wore the same style, so instead of thinking "I don't like these particular glasses", I thought "I don't like glasses at all". My father didn't understand why, but he realised I didn't like them. So the next time we bought a pair, he secretly asked the shop to add a UV filter to surprise me. This meant the lenses would darken when sunlight hit them. He thought this was cool. Unfortunately, I hated them even more. I didn't want to stand out.
