Next Friday I have to submit my thesis proposal. Last year I read many references, though I found that formal essays in my field rarely study the youth in online social forums because the gurus think the web world is unreal. I am confused because people nowadays spend plenty of time browsing their phones, and the tech giants are super-rich. Why do we still deny that it exists?

About "fake", I checked it in the dictionary, it says "something that is a counterfeit", I want to express that the experts think that people in the online world disguise themselves, could I use "fake "this word? Thanks🍻

Other words you can use instead of "super": "obscenely," "unbelievably," "extremely," etc.

This is a hard question to answer...! There are some contexts where you can use "unreal" to mean "not real," but another common definition of "unreal" is: impressive, fantastical, unbelievable, etc.
So when you say "[X] is unreal" it sounds like you are saying it's amazing, or even that it's something crazy and unbelievable. I hope this makes sense!

You can say “not real” if you are referring to something that doesn’t exist (e.g. the story in a work of fiction. Or sometimes things that are intangible.)
“Unreal” can mean the same thing, except it has an additional nuance - a feeling that something is “beyond reality” or even “dreamlike”.
Example:
“Your English is unreal!” - your English is “out of this world”, it is SO GOOD that I almost can’t believe you’re Chinese!
Unreal is generally only really used in this hyperbolic way. It’s safer and better to just use “not real”.
