i feel the need to point out that black friday is a kind of pseudo-holiday in the usa specifically dedicated to selling things at an insane discount. and it is always the day after thanksgiving. i think that's where the gift-giving idea comes from, but the idea is you buy stuff ridiculously cheap on black friday to give to someone on christmas. i don't think people actually give gifts to each other on thanksgiving, or at least ive never hear of that. maybe gifts of food but those are for everybody :p
